Terror Management Theory
Do you ever think about death? The end of existence as we know it. In Western society, the fear of death makes it an unspoken topic. However death, or more the fear of death, may be the answer to more questions than you know.
Terror Management Theory is a psychological theory that I came across in my studies. It states that the reminder of one’s own mortality can cause people to behave in a different manner. Studies show that individuals reminded of death can be more inclined to desire close interpersonal relationships, defend world views, and even buy luxury goods. I find this theory fascinating because it can be applied to marketing strategies and it affects so much of consumer behavior.
